Traditional Counselling

Face to face work

A traditional counselling setting is generally one where counsellor and client sit together in an appropriately lit, confidential space, seated a comfortable distance apart in comfortable chairs, facing one another.

The session are client led (meaning the client decides) in terms of the topics discussed and pace of the work. A good counsellor may invite a client to think about things differently, or offer an alternative perspective on the things being considered and discussed, but will always offer unconditional acceptance of the clients perspective on the material they bring.

Sessions are (unless otherwise previously agreed), on a weekly basis, one hour long and take on the same format each week.
